March news letter

Baby room

In February we enjoyed lots of activities involving experimenting with fruit. We enjoyed looking at and tasting many exotic fruits, some of which the children loved and others, not so much! We did lots of creative pictures of different fruits and spent the month reading ‘The Hungry Caterpillar’. Our new topic that we will be focusing on this month is weather. We will be discussing the topic throughout the day, during circle time, song time and doing lots of creative activities. We will be doing some splatter painting (for rain effect), and bubble painting (for wind; blowing through straws into paint.). Outdoor fun with ribbons flying in the wind on our tree in the garden.

The songs that we will be learning as part of our weather topic are as follows:

Oh Rainbow Oh Rainbow.

Oh rainbow Oh rainbow how lovely are your colours?

Oh rainbow Oh rainbow how lovely are your colours?

Purple red and orange too, yellow, green and blue so true.

Oh rainbow Oh rainbow how lovely are your colours?

The Sun Has Got His Hat On.

The sun has got his hat on, hip-hip-hip-hip-hooray.

The sun has got his hat on and he’s coming out today.

Now we’ll all be happy, hip-hip-hip-hip-hooray

The sun has got his hat on and he’s coming out today.

Playroom

Thank you to the parents who have emailed or told us verbally what their children are interested in, if you haven’t please could you fill in the attached interest form and hand it into a member of staff or email it back to us as soon as possible.

During the first two weeks in February we focussed on our senses, We tasted fruit, guessed what the different smells could be coming from the kitchen, played a touching game with the sensory box and went out in the garden to listen to the different sounds. When out in the garden we looked at all the plants discussing the colours that we could see and the textures we could touch then we looked into the sky and spotted the birds and an aeroplane. Some of the children got the chance to go for a walk into town where they saw all the cars, heard an ambulance and discussed what was going on.

During the second half of February, we made clown hats and clown faces. We also made a display in the library in Street of a clown juggling balls. The display is up until the 16th March if anybody would like to go down and see. We then looked at moving home by looking at where people live and the different houses that people live in.

This month we are looking at world book week. We are focusing on ‘The Gruffalo’ as this is a book which most of the children enjoy. We are making a model Gruffalo and we are going to be acting out some of the book using puppets. We will also be making mother’s day cards as well.

Our song for March is:

I picked some flowers

Sung to the tune of ‘Mary had a little lamb’

I picked some flowers, just for you

Just for you, just for you

I picked some flowers, just for you

To make a big bouquet.

The flowers say, that I love you,

I love you, I love you,

The flowers say, that I love you,

Happy mother’s day!
